Come give the pottery wheel a shot! We are happy to offer Clay Dates for couples looking to get out of the house and try something new. Clay Dates include pottery wheel instruction where each person creates a one-of-a-kind clay creation. This is experience is made for people who have always wanted to try the pottery wheel without committing to multiple days of instruction. It also makes a great experience gift!

Clay Dates at Studio 14 are offered for a base of $100 and includes up to 2 hours of pottery wheel instruction for 2 people. Each person will have access to 2 pounds of clay that will be prepped by the studio prior to their arrival. If desired, additional clay can be purchased before or during for $5 per pound in order to make additional or larger pieces. While each person may make multiple pieces during the booking, the base rate does not include the cost of firing and finishing pieces. Clay Dates can be seen as a way to make a finished piece or as a way to play and explore the pottery wheel. The firing and finishing of pieces will come at a charge of $15 per piece.

The studio is responsible for dipping fired pieces into the participants’ selected glaze option. The studio offers 5 glaze options, and participants can choose one glaze per piece. The studio will contact participants about finished pieces a month after their Clay Date.

At the close of a Clay Date, all participants will receive a special pin to commemorate their pottery wheel experience.

If you choose to fire pieces made during this Clay Date, the pieces must be approved by the instructor. The instructor has the right to refuse to fire any piece that does not meet the necessary requirements of a safe firing. If a participant's piece is damaged throughout the firing process, the instructor will reach out. Damaged pieces will still be finished in the selected glaze. Total loss results in store credit for the charge of the piece.

Considerations: Those guests with long hair should bring necessary accessories to have it pulled back and secured. We will be working with a rotating motor, and hair can become caught either in the mess of clay or the motor itself. Also, short fingernails make throwing on the wheel significantly easier! If you have your nails done in a longer style, no worries we will find a way to work with them, but note that it will be an additional challenge.

Tipping is greatly appreciated!  Our instructors work hard to deliver you a great party and a truly fun, artistic experience for you and your guests. “How much...” you ask?   Usually $3 to $5 per guest.
